For several years, the Waldo County Triad has teamed up with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency to hold the Drug Take Back Event each spring and fall. We collect unwanted and expired prescription and non-prescription drugs. After collection, the drugs are taken to an incinerator and burned at a temperature high enough to cause no pollution. Three years ago, we worked with AARP to add a document shredding truck to the event. Folks can bring up to ten boxes of personal documents and witness the shredding. This year, we have partnered with the Belfast Rotary Club to add Electronic Waste Disposal to the event. We have held the event each year in the Sheriff’s Office parking lot. But due to Covid-19 Social Distancing, we have moved the event to the new Belfast Public Works facility off the Crocker Road here in Belfast. The extra parking area space will allow for drive-in and drive-out service where the customers will not have to exit their vehicles. The event will happen on October 17th from 9 am to 2 pm. If you have any questions, please call the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office at 338-6786.
